Økern Portal is an urban development project initiated by Oslo Pensjonsforsikring (OPF). The aim was a lasting community that joins businesses and the surrounding neighbourhood, with high requirements for quality, environment and social sustainability. The project achieved BREEAM Excellent certification and delivered substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. Covering more than 80,000 m², it contains modern offices, nine places to eat, a gym, a hairdresser and meeting facilities. It also includes the largest roof garden in Northern Europe, which is open to the public and used as a place to learn about circular economy and biodiversity. With 1,828 registered workers, it became Norway's largest onshore project under a single contract.
